One Day, One Destiny

cruise-gallery
The haunting expose that details how Tom Cruise grew up and then became an indoctrinated, dedicated scientologist. With excellent english subtitles, this reveals from insiders who have recently left the cult, how the cult lies and manipulates its followers and the media.

The man is a victim of himself. Very good documentary. Though I thought Cruise left the church for a decade after he first got his eyes on OT-III. It’s not mentioned in this program.

  2. Stunningly in-depth and informative. Thanks for reposting this here, WBM.

wow, what a powerful piece on the best known scientologist out there. Really well done. So interesting to see the chronology of how a young star, exactly my age in fact, was seduced, indoctrinated, and grown to be the devotee he became.

    Great documentary.

Some psychological truths here about Tom Cruise, such as his confessional nature and his desire for a ‘family’. It also illustrates the mad genius of the cult that it can succed in owning Tom to such an extent and play him as its pawn. It is interesting where Tom’ll go next, and whether he will stop proselytising as suggested in the documentary.

It is also interesting as to which way he’ll go with the cult; does he want to take over ? Will he leave ? Will he be a good Scilon ? My guess is, sadly, that he’ll stay a good Scilon because it seems he has the need to submit himself to authority. Tom is by nature not a leader, but skilled at imitating leadership, a natural henchman if you like. He needs someone else to supply the lines he’s learning.

Of course, the Scilon’s use of celebrities has its risks as they can become loose cannons, and in particular the vanity of celebrities might outweigh their loyalty to the cult on some occasions.

It is in the nature of Scientology that Tom, like his co-cultists, is both a victim and a perpetrator of the cult’s evil. That’s also true even of slappy of course, he’s never been allowed to think for himself either.

P.S. I heard an Armenian Proverb the other day which I quite liked – “If there were wisdom in beards – all goats would be prophets!” (please don’t take it personally, WBM !)

Yeah, that caught my attention, too. They basically covered the time Tom was married to Nicole with just the commentary on how DM saw Nicole as a problem. No word on what Tom was thinking. Also, there was a lot of rather dramatic commentary about doing the super-secret OT3 in 2003 and swallowing it instantly, when that was in fact Tom’s second attempt.

Katie comes across as quite the airhead, I thought. She seems to have managed to stay star-struck through an amazing amount of BS, but then again I suppose Tom has a lot of money to impress her with. Raising a kid in that environment must have made a thing or two a bit clearer to her. I wonder if she’s given any tv-interviews recently. I don’t mean the publicity circuit talk show visits and such, but an actual interview. It’s pretty difficult to lie on camera in those.

“That’s also true even of slappy of course, he’s never been allowed to think for himself either.”

That’s not quite accurate, is it? He did take over the cult rather ruthlessly on his own initiative. He can clearly act in his self-interest and even rewrite Hubbard if necessary. It’s true that he has no other frame of reference than the cult, but why would he want one? He’s obviously a narcissist and he’s sitting at the top where he is.

Very good documentary. I can’t quite figure out whether to feel sorry for the guy or be afraid of him.
