I haven’t posted anything yet about Scientology’s trek into quake-ravaged Haiti. The media has been covering their exploits quite a bit, especially after John Travolta started flying his jumbo jet into Haiti, stocked with doctors, food and supplies. Let me just say that I think it’s great that large quantities of needed materials are getting to the area but Travolta is also bringing teams of Volunteer Ministers who are flooding Haiti with L. Ron Hubbard’s nuttiness.
I believe the Scientologists on the ground are genuine in their desire to help. But corporate Scientology views a disaster such as this as a recruiting opportunity. Not so much in converting the Haitians themselves but in the publicity that Scientology generates from these catastrophes. I don’t know of any organization that pumps out the amount of PR releases about their “minister’s” good deeds. It’s all about safepointing Scientology; giving the corporation a positive face in order to spread Hubbard’s tech throughout society.
As we’ve seen in each of the disasters that Scientology has exploited such as 9/11 or the London bombings, their Volunteer Ministers spread out and do some good, distributing food and water and assisting in other tasks, but also taking glee in chasing away real mental health experts and offering nonsensical touch assists and other Hubbard devised nuttiness.
Gawker has been covering a lot of Scientology’s escapades. In one article they detail some of what the Volunteer Ministers are delivering. In another article, someone who traveled on a Scientology chartered plane to Haiti gives a behind the scenes look at the action.
The doctors and EMTs in our party headed straight downtown to start working. The Scientologists had nowhere to go, and nowhere to put up the big yellow tent they’d brought for touch healing people in. They went to the UN, and managed to get on to their list of approved NGOs somehow. That meant they could set up in the UN grounds.
But they had no-one who spoke Creole, and they brought the weirdness of touch healing into a very superstitious society. They’d leave the tent and come into the general hospital downtown, and try healing people. One of the doctors and one of the nurses told me that the wounded started coming to them to tell them they didn’t want to be treated by the people in the yellow shirts.
One nurse told me that the Scientologists actually caused harm — they gave food to people who were scheduled to go into surgery. That then led to complications in the operating theater.
On the way back, the plane stopped in Miami and did not go on to New York, stranding all the doctors and EMTs and journalists who expected to get back. After much fighting, the Scientologist representative agreed to fly any of the EMTs that “absolutely couldn’t afford the ticket” on Jet Blue from Fort Lauderdale. I heard there were complications but had bought my own ticket because I was fed up with their weirdness.

If Gawker has been skeptical, the Today Show went the other direction, blowing Scientology a gentle little kiss and praising them for their efforts.

Now Haiti has two disasters: earthquake and Scientology, it needs double help.
Scilons are traitors to humanity. Led by scum, ruled by filth, and their stupidity is not needed in Haiti. Scientology is a threat to every thing good in humanity. John Travolta is like those he choses to belong, a piece of treasonous filth. No one deserves Scientology. I dare Travolta come to this site and get schooled on his pathetic, inferior cult. It burns me up to know that Scum is taking advantage of the weak and inferm. That is all.
Yeah, John Travolta is a rich stupid prick, and still the pampered jerk of the “church” – as he has always been! So much for all the nonsense talking and wishful thinking that the death of his son might make him rethink his preposterous attitude. NO WAY BABY!
John Travolta has been and obviously stays a short-witted simpleton.
And obviously he doesn’t even have the resources to reassess his moronic views if it would cost the life of his son. He wouldn’t be the first parent who prefers to literally waste the life of his children over having to contemplate and correct his distorted views on the world.
But luckily for him he has enough money and countless bootlickers around him to stay blissfully ignorant and full of himself. (Just like Tom, eh?)
If John is such a “genuinely likable” guy, that can only be because of a “sympathy for the fool” that prevents anyone from being mad at the idiot because he’s so adorable cute ….
I’m going to make the possibly dangerous suggestion here, that the Scientologist do deserve some credit for what they are doing.
Evidently they have managed to marshal the goodwill and energy of some dedicated young adults, and it seems that they have been of some practical help. Even though the ‘touch assists’ are bogus, these are little different from other forms of alternative medicine being a rather theatrical placebo administered by someone who cares.
Just like some ex-scilons report that the early scientology courses are of some practical help in focussing one’s thoughts (a claim which isn’t inherently incredible), I guess that new scientologists are in some ways well placed to deliver some forms of help in a limited way, as they are not yet completely lost to the bizarre alternative world of the cult.
So, if they are helping, I think the correct stance for us is not one of outright opposition, but rather of a high level of sceptical scrutiny. Both the praise of the doctor in the second clip, and also the reports of the Scientologists endangering patients, by giving food at the wrong time, can be regarded as anecdotal at this stage. Our role is to do what we can to make sure that any problems proven to be caused by Scientologists in Haiti are highlighted as strongly as the positive aspects, and that any good publicity the cult gets is earned from a sober analysis of the actual results of its efforts, rather than for it’s people simply ‘being there’.
The suffering of the poor people of Haiti was just a perfect opportunity to promote your new movie and your stupid little cult John Travolta wasn’t it.

Well I cant say much about the touch assist. It seems strange and not based in scientific medical practices. Sounds a little bit like touch therapy or reiki methods used by some nurses (both failed when applied to the scientific method).
But i will say that the supplies and real medical professionals would be more than welcome. I for one dont really care if the scientologist are looking for publicity what really matters is results. If they have real medical professionals and willing hands to do useful work, then good on them.
Scilons don’t really care about people. They just want to promote the cult and thus are a threat to the people of Haiti. Christians don’t promote the fact, they just help, same goes for all real religions (Authentic). Taking photo-ops just to make the dying cult look good is atrocious, deceptive, inhuman, fraudulent, and down right nasty.
Even if they are sincere in their desire to help, as the editorial above suggests, they are delusional about their ability to help [cf. the Tom Cruise rant]
Even ex-scilons say the religion itself benefited them. Yeah, CoS is more of a cult than a religion, and their anti-medicine and anti-psychiatry beliefs are harmful. But the biggest threat is the corruption at the top that drives them to recruit lost souls and profit from the toil of their minions.
You haters spouting off hate are just providing quotable material the CoS can use to prove they have an evil enemy. If Travolta’s a dimwit, you’re a vegetable. You should be trying to reach people like him with logic and reason, instead of just ranting, raging, and preaching to a hateful choir. Perhaps Cruise is near the top and is nearly as dangerous and corrupt as DM. But I think Travolta’s still a brilliant, good guy who must be getting extra, extra-special brainwashing treatment. He could even wake up one day and turn it all around.
Real medical people is one thing but touch assist “ministers” to help hundreds of thousands of people with traumatic injuries is an abomination.
When the Earthquake Hit in Haiti the Scientologist’s swarmed into the Haitian Embassy to Help,and they started working for a Charity Group affiliated with the Embassy GWHRC(Greater Washington Haitian Relief Committee) the Doctors and Medical volunteers the Sciontologists are claiming the are sending to Haiti come from the GWHRC.
the GWHRC has sent out hundreds of press releases and contacted the media and collected all kinds of Donations from Citizens around the Washington DC area
If you have followed the GWHRC Press Releases you will notice that every Medical Volunteer and all of the equipment like X-Ray Machines,water purification machines have been donated to the Embassy.
Sylvia Standard is in Charge of the Volunteer Ministers at the Embassy.and there are about a dozen Volunteer ministers inside the Embassy taking phone calls,clerical work and making coffee.
The DC Homeland Security took over the registration of Mental Health Care Workers for the GWHRC because of the presence of Scientology inside the Embassy thanks to a concerned anonymous tipster.
A lot of concerned citizens are sending in donations to the GWHRC in the way of supplies,food and Medical Equipment and there had been a tremendous outpouring of help. all of which Scientology is claiming they are sending to Haiti,when it is not the case,its just Scientology trying to pull a fast one for PR propaganda purposes
Another thing the CoS has been doing In Haiti quietly is Starting an Orphanage.
a Haitian Citizen “Claude Reginald Jean” who has been part of the Haitian Dientics Center of Haiti for a couple of Years and is in Partnership with Global Pioneers and Cary Goulston,owned 2 orphanages in Haiti those buildings collapsed during the earthquake reportedly.
Mr Claude Jean donated a football sized walled compound to the CoS to open a Scientology run Orphanage, they currently have 170+children in their charge interestingly Mr Jean and his 4 children left Haiti for Clearwater aboard Mr Travoltas plane
Clearwater Academy a Scientology School Gave Mr Jeans 4 Children full scolarships to the School free of charge.
In A Press Release Scientoligist PR talkinghead Pat Harney stated Scientology wold be staying in Haiti long term opening up a Church and an Orphanage.
